Toolbox for Young Researchers (TYR)
The LabTDS (Laboratory for Translational Data Science) has designed a series of meetings to support individuals facing practical challenges commonly encountered in scientific research. This series is called TYR (Toolbox for Young Researchers). It is aimed primarily at early-career researchers, students, and professionals who are interested in pursuing a postgraduate degree focused on translational studies.
The main goal is to shorten their learning curve by offering hands-on experience with the day-to-day aspects of academic research — from basic computational organisation for effective project and idea management, to the public dissemination of results. Along the way, we’ll explore project planning, study design, text editing, spreadsheet and database creation, data management, information security, graphical exploration, image creation, basic statistical interpretation, academic writing, thesis and dissertation formatting, poster preparation, rational use of chat bots, among many other topics. There will also be a flexible space to accommodate topics suggested by participants.
There is no need to be formally enrolled in a postgraduate programme, but a genuine interest in learning is essential. A secondary goal of the series is to foster a serious yet friendly and relaxed environment in which everyone can learn from and support one another.
I would be especially grateful if you could share this with your students, whether they are already enrolled or preparing to apply for the programme. You are, of course, more than welcome to join as well — your experience would be a great contribution.
